Check out this link for a heads up oon a new project I am instigating now!

The text reads...

Unfortunately our file host booted the copy of GIT from their server and we have been unable to retrieve it using the original link.

I have now uploaded GIT to a new file host so please can you all amend the notecard in your posters to use this URL link instead.

As this is a bit of an onerous task let me give you some good news. It is with some trepidation that I am instigating another collaborative recording project along the same lines as GIT but with a different song. The track is being prepared now and when it is ready I will be making the details and the download available both here on the forum and in world via the myriad of music based groups. The song should be available in skeleton (halloween pun ha ha!) form next week.

So if you are a musician then please keep an eye out (not literally..you should only take halloween jokes so far) for developments on this. If you are not a musician your support is equally important. Please help us to spread the word initially amoungst the musicians of SL in the hope that we can hit the heights of GIT.

I'll start a new thread soon but in the meantime drop a line here is there is anything you need to know on the new GIT link or the new project!

A weekend off 10/27/2008

My shoulder is getting better slowly although it is difficult to rest it. If I were a true rock and roll star I guess I'd have someone to lift the shopping out of the car for me but alas this is down to me for now and can result in a painful tweak of an existing condition! Oh the terrible condition's artists such as I have to work under lol!

I have not had any shows all weekend because it is my partner's birthday today and she is very patient with my online musical fun seeing as she takes the brunt of looking after our 4 children! So she deserves some attention and that includes a trip to the theatre tonight to see Hamlet starting the UK's most popular actor at the moment, David Tennant, and another stalwart of science fiction, Patrick Stewart. While hunting for tickets for this I advance booked for next March to see Sir Ian McKellern and Patrick Stewart doing Samuel Beckett's Waiting For Godot, a play I have seen a couple of times before. If you are wondering what idle ponderings on my current activities has to do with music then the last time I saw Godot I came home and wrote the song While You Wait based on one of the premises of the play; that it isn't what you are waiting for that is important but what you do while you wait. Sadly my song only gets an airing at my shows. I wonder if my pals McKellern and Stewart need to some music to play in the interval? :)

Cruu-unch! 10/20/2008

I was out with my family yesterday enjoying a very late in the year burst of British sunshine by going to a local pub and sitting outside for a meal while the kids played on the swings. I can assure you that I am not a big drinker and what happened next cannot be attributed to alcohol although a copious application of firewater may have dulled the pain somewhat. While chasing around running after the kids I fell over and my shoulder ploughed into the hard compacted turf. There was an audible crunching tearing sound and I felt numb accompanied with a feeling like I was going to be sick. The rest of the day was spent in pain including that nights gig at Bay Vista. Ever the trooper I carried on the show with minimal (ok maybe the audience will attest that it was not so minimal) whinging about the pain I was in.

This morning I went to see a doctor who appeared to be no more than 14 years old and had it confirmed that it was only muscle damage. I say "only" but I still cannot lift my arm above shoulder height and I have trouble putting my pants on. Involuntary grunting and yelping sounds and talking to myself have always been a part of my daily existence (is it possible to have a little bit of Tourette's?). Now I have a reason for the noises and as for the talking to myself it consists of gasps followed by an expletive usually after doing something simple like reaching for my toothbrush.

Sometimes the most impromtu shows turn out to be the best. Last night I was knocking around the house with the kids all having gone to bed and my partner having gone out to see some live music in our local area..namely the Oxjam event at the Cheese and Grain in Frome, Somerset with the Buffolo Girls headlining. Country and Western is not my bag at all so I was happy to give this a miss.

So I went onto to SL wondering if I might be able to find a gig somewhere. As soon as I got online I got a call from my good friend Bree Birke (www.breebirke.com) to say she was watching a speed build contest. When I arrived I found it consisted of a series of raised platforms on which each competitor had 45 mins to build something on the theme of "In The Kitchen". After a period of watching what they were putting together I got a message from the owner of the land, another old friend of mine Paddy Wright. Paddy asked if I would judge the competition so I got all official and started scrutinising what the folks had put together. Finally, once the time was up Paddy announced the conclusion I had reached. In 3rd place was Cito Karu with a nicely put together set of kitchen units and refridgerator including running water in the sink. 2nd place went to Aaack Straaf who cretaed an imaginative scene in which two insects looked on in wonder at a spillage from a giant wine glass. !st place went to Santa Kwassman with his giant 1950's inspired food mixer complete with animation turning the blades in a tasty looking chocolate cake mix.

Everyone was in a good mood and all seemed to be enjoying themselves as we all had a good look round the entrants. It was around about this time that I ask Paddy if he would mind if we kept the fun going and I played a few tunes for everybody. I needed to relog to get set up on my laptop so after about 15 minutes of setting up we had all transferred to the lovely Teal Island where I played an hour and 20 minutes of songs. I got a really good response from everyone there, several of whom hadn't been to a live music show in SL before. It was altogether a very satisfying experience playing for old friends and new. My thanks to Paddy Wright and Gillian Carthage for letting me play.
