I came through the shows at the weekend and great fun they were too. Both the Irish shows were well attended and I had a blast playing them. The Zurixh show was fun too although one bizarre occurance deserves a mention here.
When I arrived and started to get set up there was an eerie silence to my request for the permissions to set up my stage. The problem then became apparent that there had been a double booking and I was not going to be playing! Now this is fine with me. Life is too short to get worked up about it and after all these things happen so it's all cool. It seems that the venue owner was put under pressure from the other act as they were performing live somewhere in a venue in RL and streaming in the show so they had to play. I just sat back in the audience and listened.
Part way through the first song it all went a bit wobbly. The act stopped. Started. Stopped. In all it took 15 minutes of cutting in and out before they gave up and cancelled the show altogether. Technical problems happen so I wouldn't judge them on that but after they had argued so vehemently that they should be playing instead of me it was difficult for me to suppress the smug feeling despite knowing it was wrong of me to be like that. I didn't hear any evidence that they were doing a RL show either, they certainly were not talking to any RL audience in amoungst the hiccups.
I had a chat with the venue owner and I then played for the last 35 mins or so until the next act. I had a great time, the audience were all happy and I tried to rise above any feelings of smugness I was experiencing!!! So is it true that the meek shall inherit the earth??!?!?
I tend to let folks come and find me if they want me to play a gig these days and that usually gives me just the right number of shows. Unusually I have had 3 in a single weekend and I decided this would be a good time to start playing some of the new songs I have written this year. Last night I played at Glendalough hosted by Lilly25 Connoly and Rudolf Moo and we had a great crowd who stayed for a little extra time after the show too when I played two new songs; "Suffer" and "Smile". I have visited the RL Glendalough. It is the site of a deserted ancient monastry south of Dublin in the county of Wicklow. During the show I joked about whether there were monks in the SL Glendalough and if so they were probably brewing Potcheen.
So tonight I am playing Zurich Opera House (see my calendar for the SLURL) and then on Sunday I am back in Ireland at Limerick City. I'll play my new songs at these shows too possible with some others too.
